ABOUT BOB
Bob Arns (1933-2019) was an artist all his life. Professionally, he was a physicist, a professor, a teacher, a researcher, a provost, a management consultant, and most of all a leader. But Bob’s father painted as a hobby, and Bob began to paint at a very young age.
When he was advised, as a young teacher, that he would have to give up painting to be taken seriously as a scientist, he adopted the nom d’artiste Mutin, signed his paintings that way, and continued, privately, to paint. Only his family and a few friends knew of it. He had an extraordinarily successful career, and kept his painting for weekends and vacations.
But after Bob retired, the Vermont gallery that framed his paintings offered him a one-man show. His work was received with enthusiasm and began to be exhibited and sold. He rented a studio, and for the rest of his life he painted almost every day. He had two solo shows, a joint show with his daughter Sue, and several open studio events.
This web site shows Bob’s most significant art. His early paintings were quite representational. In later years, his physics and art intersected, and many paintings were inspired by the images from the Hubble Space Telescope.
Enjoy.
